Farhan Akhtar began his career as an assistant director on Lamhe (1991) and Himalay Putra (1997). He co-founded Excel Entertainment with Ritesh Sidhwani and made his directorial debut with Dil Chahta Hai (2001), which won a National Award. He followed it with Lakshya (2004) and wrote lyrics for the soundtrack of Bride and Prejudice (2004), his Hollywood debut. He directed the commercially successful Don (2006) and the short film Positive (2007) on HIV-AIDS awareness. As an actor, he played Aditya Shroff in Rock On 2 (2016), Daanish Ali in Wazir (2016), Sunny Gill in Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), Maqsood in Daddy (2017), Kishan Mohan Girhotra in Lucknow Central (2017), Niren Chaudhary in The Sky Is Pink (2019) and Ajju Aziz Ali in Toofaan (2021). He is set to play Major Shaitan Singh in 120 Bahadur (2025). As a producer, his credits include Gully Boy (2019), Raees (2017), Fukrey Returns (2017), Gold (2018), Phone Bhoot (2022), Sharmaji Namkeen (2022), Fukrey 3 (2023), Kho Gaye Hum Kahan (2023), Friday Night Plan (2023), Madgaon Express (2024), Agni (2024), Superboys of Malegaon (2025), Ground Zero (2025) and Mirzapur: The Movie (2026).
