Ram Chandra, a Tamilian living in a Dharavi shanty with his mother and younger sister, dreams of attending school. After his sister is loaned out to a beggar to collect alms and passes away from hunger, Ram leaves home, works hard, studies, and becomes rich, constructing colleges for needy students. He admits Raja, a new arrival from Allahabad, to Ram Chandra College for Business Management with full board and shelter, and helps him with personal problems, including his romance with a young woman he met at a Cyber Café and then at Bandra Railway Station. Meanwhile, Ram Chandra arranges his daughter's marriage to Rajesh Gupta, the only son of a multi-millionaire and educationist, unaware that Raja's love interest is his own daughter, Roja. The film is a Hindi romance directed by Kathir, with music by A.R. Rahman.

Dil Hi Dil Mein official trailer
Our verdict
Dil Hi Dil Mein pairs a social-mobility backstory with a sweet college romance, held together by Nassar's earnest performance and A.R. Rahman's music. The 147-minute runtime lets the story breathe, though the plot's reliance on coincidence may feel dated to some viewers. It's a solid pick for those who enjoy turn-of-the-millennium Hindi romances.
