Nadaaniyan story (no spoilers)
Nadaaniyan is a Hindi romantic comedy-drama about Pia Jaisingh, a privileged Delhi socialite who hires Arjun Mehta, a middle-class student, to pose as her boyfriend to keep up her social standing. The arrangement is strictly business at first, but as they spend time together, real feelings start to complicate their act. The film follows the push-and-pull between Pia's world of status and Arjun's more grounded reality, with the tone swinging between light comedy and emotional drama. Directed by Shauna Gautam, it stars Khushi Kapoor and Ibrahim Ali Khan, with Mahima Chaudhry, Suniel Shetty, Dia Mirza and Jugal Hansraj in supporting roles. At 119 minutes, it stays a compact watch about pretence, class differences and the messiness of falling for someone you were only supposed to fake-date.
Should you watch Nadaaniyan?
Watch it for
- The classic fake-dating setup gets a Delhi socialite twist, with Khushi Kapoor as Pia Jaisingh and Ibrahim Ali Khan as Arjun Mehta navigating a relationship that starts as a performance.
- A supporting cast full of familiar names: Mahima Chaudhry and Suniel Shetty play Pia's parents, while Dia Mirza and Jugal Hansraj play Arjun's parents.
- Director Shauna Gautam makes her debut with a romantic comedy-drama that blends light humour with class-conscious drama.
- At 119 minutes, it's a tight watch that doesn't demand a huge time commitment.
Skip it if
- You're not into fake-dating romances where the outcome is fairly predictable from the setup.
- You prefer stories with more edge than a light-toned romance-comedy-drama about Delhi social circles.
- You want a film with a fresh take on class differences rather than a familiar rich-girl-meets-middle-class-boy dynamic.

Our verdict
Nadaaniyan is a straightforward fake-dating romance that leans on the charm of its leads and a familiar Delhi socialite backdrop. The supporting cast, including Suniel Shetty and Dia Mirza, adds some weight, but the story sticks to well-worn beats. It's a decent one-time watch if you like light romantic dramas, though it won't surprise anyone looking for something new.
