Uri: The Surgical Strike story (no spoilers)
Uri: The Surgical Strike is a 2019 Hindi action-drama-war film directed by Aditya Dhar. The story begins with roguish terrorist attacks on the Uri Army Base camp in Kashmir, which leaves India mourning its fallen heroes. Major Vihan Singh Shergill, played by Vicky Kaushal, is at the centre of the response as India decides to take the fight to the enemy. The film follows the planning and execution of a covert operation with one objective: avenging the soldiers who were lost. NSA Govind Bhardwaj, portrayed by Paresh Rawal, is part of the decision-making chain, while Yami Gautam Dhar appears as Pallavi Sharma / Jasmine. The tone is tense and purposeful, built around military procedure and the weight of retaliation rather than glamorous heroics. At 138 minutes, the narrative moves between the aftermath of the attack and the preparation for a strike across the border. The tagline 'Ye Naya Hindustan Hai' signals the film's argument about a changed approach to national security. It is a war drama first, with action set pieces serving the operation rather than standing alone.

Our verdict
Uri: The Surgical Strike is a focused Hindi war drama that uses the Uri base attack as its starting point and follows the covert response with a cast led by Vicky Kaushal. Aditya Dhar keeps the 138-minute runtime on the operation and its planning rather than side plots, which suits viewers who want a tense, procedural take. It is not a light watch, but it is clear about what it is doing.
