Aishwarya Rai Bachchan began her acting career in 1997 with the Tamil political drama Iruvar and made her Hindi debut the same year with ...Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya. In 1999, she starred in the musical Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. That year also saw the release of Taal. She earned a second Filmfare Award for Best Actress for the 2002 period drama Devdas. Her other releases in the 2000s included Chokher Bali (2003), Raincoat (2004), Bride & Prejudice (2004), Dhoom 2 (2006), Guru (2007), Jodhaa Akbar (2008), and The Pink Panther 2 (2009). In 2010, she appeared in Enthiran and Guzaarish. After a hiatus, she returned to cinema with Jazbaa (2015), in which she played Anuradha Verma. She then portrayed Dalbir Kaur in the biographical drama Sarbjit (2016) and appeared as Saba in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). In 2018, she played Baby Singh aka Sumitra Singh in Fanney Khan. She starred as Nandini / Oomai Rani in the historical drama Ponniyin Selvan: Part I (2022) and reprised the role as Nandini / Mandakini Devi in Ponniyin Selvan: Part II (2023).
