Housefull 5 story (no spoilers)
Housefull 5 is a Hindi comedy-mystery-thriller directed by Tarun Mansukhani. A father writes his will, leaving everything to his son 'Jolly' — but nobody knows who the real Jolly is. On a cruise celebrating the father's birthday, several people claim to be Jolly, including Julius (Akshay Kumar), Jalbhushan (Abhishek Bachchan) and Jalabuddin (Riteish Deshmukh). The confusion deepens when a murder takes place on board, turning the celebration into a whodunit. The film mixes slapstick comedy with mystery and thriller elements, as the characters try to figure out the killer while maintaining their Jolly pretenses. With a runtime of 163 minutes, the story unfolds across the cruise setting, featuring an ensemble cast including Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Nana Patekar and Sanjay Dutt. The tagline 'A Killer Comedy' hints at the blend of humour and suspense. The film is the fifth instalment in the Housefull franchise and was released in India on 6 June 2025.
Should you watch Housefull 5?
Watch it for
- Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh each play a different 'Jolly', bringing their own comic style to the identity mix-up.
- The cruise-ship setting and murder mystery add a twist to the usual Housefull comedy formula, with genres listed as Comedy, Mystery and Thriller.
- Director Tarun Mansukhani (known for Dostana) handles a large ensemble that also includes Nana Patekar, Sanjay Dutt and Jacqueline Fernandez.
- At 163 minutes, it offers a full-length dose of the franchise's trademark chaos and confusion.
Skip it if
- You prefer tightly plotted mysteries; the 163-minute runtime and comedy-first approach may feel stretched.
- You are not a fan of the Housefull series' over-the-top, farcical humour and multiple mistaken-identity gags.
- You want a serious thriller; the U/A 16+ certificate and comedy genre suggest a lighter tone despite the murder plot.

Our verdict
Housefull 5 delivers exactly what the franchise promises: a star-studded, chaotic comedy with a murder mystery thrown in. The cast clearly has fun with the Jolly confusion, but the 163-minute runtime and silly plot may test patience. It's a decent timepass if you enjoy the series' brand of humour, but don't expect a gripping thriller.
