The Greatest of All Time story (no spoilers)
The Greatest of All Time follows a former decorated member of the Special Anti-Terrorism Squad (SATS) who is pulled back into service by his old colleagues for an important mission. As he takes on the assignment, the operation puts him on a dangerous collision course with his own past. The film stars Vijay in a double role as Gandhi and Jeevan, alongside Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Mohan, Ajmal Ameer, Jayaram, Sneha and Meenakshi Chaudhary. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, the Tamil action drama thriller runs 183 minutes and carries a UA certificate in India. It was released in theatres on 5 September 2024, with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The tone is tense and action-driven, built around a returning operative whose mission forces him to confront unfinished history rather than simply chase a target.
Should you watch The Greatest of All Time?
Watch it for
- Vijay plays both Gandhi and Jeevan, giving the action drama a dual-role dynamic at its centre.
- Venkat Prabhu directs an ensemble that includes Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Mohan, Jayaram, Sneha and Meenakshi Chaudhary.
- The film blends Action, Drama and Thriller genres around a SATS operative called back for a mission that collides with his past.
- Yuvan Shankar Raja provides the music for a 183-minute Tamil film that released in theatres on 5 September 2024.
Skip it if
- You may find the 183-minute runtime too long for an action thriller.
- If you prefer films without a past-vs-present conflict driving the plot, this setup may not appeal.
- The UA certificate and action-thriller genre suggest a tense tone rather than a light watch.

Our verdict
The Greatest of All Time gives Vijay a double role as Gandhi and Jeevan and puts him back in SATS territory under Venkat Prabhu's direction. The 183-minute runtime and the past-collision premise are the main things to weigh before watching. It is a straightforward pick for Tamil action-thriller viewers, with the UA certificate signalling a more grown-up tone.
