Vikram Vedha story (no spoilers)
Vikram Vedha is a 2022 Hindi action-crime thriller directed by Gayathri and Pushkar. The story follows Vikram, an honest police officer in Lucknow, who is determined to track down and eliminate the gangster Vedha. The central conflict begins when Vedha voluntarily surrenders to the police and starts telling Vikram a series of stories. These narratives gradually blur the line between good and evil, forcing Vikram to question his own righteousness. As Vedha challenges Vikram's belief that he is fair and just, the film explores the tagline: 'Between Good & Evil, what you choose, defines you.' The tone is tense and morally complex, with the cat-and-mouse dynamic driving the action and crime elements. The film runs 160 minutes and stars Saif Ali Khan as Vikram and Hrithik Roshan as Vedha, with Radhika Apte as Priya and Rohit Saraf as Krishna aka 'Shatak'. It was released theatrically in India on 30 September 2022.
Should you watch Vikram Vedha?
Watch it for
- Hrithik Roshan plays the gangster Vedha opposite Saif Ali Khan's upright cop Vikram, a pairing that drives the film's moral tug-of-war.
- Directors Gayathri and Pushkar build a tense action-crime thriller around Vedha's storytelling, which keeps the conflict between good and evil at the centre.
- The 160-minute runtime gives the Lucknow-set cat-and-mouse chase room to unfold, with supporting turns from Radhika Apte as Priya and Rohit Saraf as Krishna aka 'Shatak'.
- The film's tagline, 'Between Good & Evil, what you choose, defines you,' signals a tone that questions Vikram's righteousness rather than offering easy answers.
Skip it if
- You prefer straightforward action without a story that constantly questions whether the cop is truly fair and just.
- A 160-minute runtime feels long to you for a crime thriller built on dialogue-driven storytelling.
- You want a film that resolves the good-versus-evil question quickly instead of letting Vedha's narratives blur the lines.

Our verdict
Vikram Vedha pairs Saif Ali Khan and Hrithik Roshan in a 160-minute Hindi thriller that uses Vedha's stories to unsettle Vikram's sense of justice. The Lucknow setting and the directors' focus on moral ambiguity give the action-crime plot a tense, dialogue-heavy edge. It is an honest take on the good-versus-evil question, though the long runtime asks for patience.
