Zaalim story (no spoilers)
Zaalim is a 1994 Hindi film about Judge Somnath, who lives with his wife, three sons, and a daughter. Two sons, Vikram and Mohan, are married; Vikram is a surgeon and Mohan a police inspector. The youngest son, Ravi, is studying law, aiming to become a judge like his father. The family carries a dark secret: Ravi has a violent temper and killed someone in his childhood. When his sister Kaamna is raped, the family hesitates to tell Ravi, fearing his reaction. They eventually convince him to stay calm, while Mohan obtains an arrest warrant for Vinod, Kaamna's molester. The court case is postponed for months, and then Somnath and Kaamna are killed in a bomb explosion. Mohan and Vikram handcuff Ravi on their balcony while they finalize funeral arrangements. The film explores family loyalty, justice, and the consequences of concealed truths.

Our verdict
Zaalim is a 1994 Hindi film that mixes family drama with crime and legal elements. Akshay Kumar plays Ravi, a law student with a violent past, and the story hinges on a rape and its fallout. The film is earnest but heavy, and its depiction of sexual violence makes it unsuitable for younger viewers.
